To Kill A King

Ralph Pelleymounter of To KIll A KIng and Dan Smith of Bastille having a sing along in Bristol. 27.03.13

I've known the guys from To Kill A King for as long as I've known Dan Smith (lead singer of Bastille). At the time I met them, their band was called Kid iD (back around 2008), and they would play at the same shows, so I would see them when I went to see Dan play.

In 2009 they reinvented themselves as To Kill a King, and started putting out some amazing music. Dan invited them to open for Bastille’s 2013 Bad Blood tour, so I saw them while on tour with Bastille in March and was blown away by their live show.

After the tour, I was at an Xtra Mile Recordings A&R meeting and I put TKAK forward as an option for a new act. The timing was good for both the label and the band, and it was a cool moment for me to get to use the contacts from my years of photography to bring a band forward like that. Luckily everything worked out and TKAK signed on, announcing on Friday, August 1st. I think they'll mesh nicely with the acts we've already got at Xtra Mile--they're a ridiculously hardworking group. They'll be releasing a deluxe version of their album "Cannibals with Cutlery" through Xtra Mile Recordings in October. Lots to look forward to with this group!
