Passenger in Dublin

I popped along to photograph the second of Passenger’s two nights in Dublin this October. I love this guy’s story of busking around the world before suddenly becoming an international hit with “Let Her Go.” He played well to those roots—even doing an unplugged song to a (miraculously) silent crowd.

He tours the world with singer songwriter Stu Larsen, who is his very close friend and touring buddy. They had a great dynamic and both brought a lot of personality and energy to the stage, even as solo acoustic performers.

Vicar Street is one of my favourite venues in Dublin. In addition to be being happy with the backstage photos I love the way Vicar Street looks when it has a sold out show.

A sold out Vicar Street.

Since I am usually touring with a band It’s a different dynamic for me to do a one-night gig shooting an artist, going into a show without knowing their routine can be a challenge. I saw shots I wish I could have had a second night’s chance at, and moments I would have liked to catch from different angles. But there’s something nice about working with my home turf here in Dublin and seeing who is coming to town this way. It was one good night, and that works well for me.
